Spathe Rug

Spathe is a large sheathing bract that encloses a spadix of a palm tree which consists of a cluster of small flowers. These flowers mainly exist enclosed inside the spathe taking the shape of several peas in a pod.

This rug is inspired by the details of the spathe, where it draws inspiration from its arrangement and illustrate it in a modern manner.

The rug translates the different textures of the spathe through the combination of hand-knotting and looping techniques while evoking a royal materiality through the choice of its rich jewel tones.

Additional details are enhanced by the various heights of the wool pile which is cut by hand to add dimension.
