Flaya

The Flaya collection draws its formal language from the ancient Falaj irrigation systems, reinterpreting the branching and reuniting of water channels as furniture pieces.

Its name is rooted in the same tradition it honours: Flaya being the plural of Falaj in the Emirati dialect, where the subtle shift from J to Y reflects the natural evolution of language across generations, a living echo of the culture it emerges from.

Its multiple channel-like formations and intersecting horizontal structures echo the way water splits, travels, and reconnects; a movement that is never purely physical. Just as the Falaj was the backbone of communal life, drawing people together around a shared resource, the collection reflects that same spirit of interdependence: separate parts that only find their full meaning in relation to one another.

This concept extends into the pieces' two-tone color application, where the contrast in colors mirrors the Falaj's own duality of earth and water, structure and flow, making them a quiet, precise translation of an ancient hydraulic landscape, and the human bonds it nurtured, into contemporary form.
